Bank Street Reconstruction
The replacement of Bank Street's storm, sanitary and combined sewers,
water mains, roadways, and sidewalks from the Rideau Canal to Third
Avenue has been deferred for a year (i.e. to 2011-2012).
When the GCA consulted on this issue a few years ago, the burial of
hydro wires on Bank Street was a high priority for residents. We even
developed the "Underground Sound" concert series and raised tens of
thousands of dollars for the cause. But a decision on wire burial on
Bank Street in the Glebe has not yet been made.
In October 2009, Council directed staff to develop a formal policy, guided by the
objectives set out in the City’s Official Plan, that establishes
criteria and priority for the burial of existing overhead power lines
within the City. This policy will not be ready in time for
reconstruction in 2010. In addition, the redevelopment of Lansdowne
Park and Council's desire to reduce the City budget could affect
whether this project remains in the budget.
