Traffic

Committee Chair:

 Guy Gigučre

The Traffic Committee of the Glebe Community Association - GCA deals with transportation issues in our community.

For most Glebe residents an ongoing concern is the flow of vehicular traffic through our community on both arterial and residential streets. This concern gave rise to a multi-year community consultation leading to the preparation of the Glebe Traffic Plan.
A copy of the document, plus links to various city council discussions is found on our Councillor's website.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has been planning for upgrades to the Queensway (Highway 417). Studies have resulted in the issuance of an environmental study. The GCA is content with certain aspects of the study but is concerned about the lack of integration of plans for the provincial highway with city and neighbourhood traffic plans. Accordingly the GCA has requested the Minister of Environment to call for a "bump-up" resulting in a more comprehensive environmental study.

One aspect of the Traffic Plan which has proven controversial is addressing the morning peak traffic along residential streets connecting Bronson Ave. to the Queen Elizabeth Driveway. Late in 2006 morning turn restrictions were introduced to try to reduce the negative impact on residents. The GCA wrote to Councillors explaining the problem and proposing the plan for reducing traffic flows. The city will be studying the effect of the restrictions; the GCA is also interested to receive comments both from residents in the Glebe and others who are affected by the changes.
